What Is Communicating to You?

What does it mean to you, to communicate?

Is it to speak? Is it to convey a message or a point?
Do you find it easy to communicate or are you usually at a loss for words?
Do people find you easy to talk to and do you find that they always understand you immediately?
For many years, I was baffled by the art of communicating. It seemed to me to be something that was not easy to do, because we all have such diverse data bases in our minds about expressing ourselves with each other.
When I was little communication was a chore! There was so much I wanted to share, so much I wanted to gift others but I did not know the right words to make them feel what I was telling them. Thus, I began a love affair with language and expressing it effectively became a chosen goal.
I wanted so badly to be specific and engender the correct message. Sadly, I found myself being misunderstood and misrepresented.
The fact that, English was not my home language played a major role then and that, just made me more determined to understand the mechanics of communication and have since made a study of it.
My background was not very good as an example of good communication and I had to go outside my own conditioning. Beyond that, I had to also delve deeper within myself to really pull up from my deepest recesses the means to want to communicate my mind when my natural inclination is to keep to myself.
Communication to me today is like love - it is about what you give!
When you are in a state of giving, you communicate better. Your intentions are not misjudged on the basis of what you say or even how, but rather, on what the other person chooses to accept, believe, and interpret and what their hidden motives with you may be. And they do reveal those to you, very fast, when they have made those choices.
Say what you mean and mean what you say has been a personal motto of mine that I live by for over twenty years.
Communicating to me today is wonderful form of self-expression.
And, when I look at all my students and the joy they get from being understood clearly with its use, it definitely makes my heart very toasty.
I found communication to be the wheel that turns trust into the understanding of self, of understanding people and of understanding life. And I trust the use of language and the art of communicating will do the same for you; to show your life, to show your love and to show who you are within, marvellous Being that you are!
